The RAS channels were fitted with GRP splashguards and were partially covered approximately 10 years ago. Since then, changes to the treatment process had led to an increase in the amount of sludge that was being ejected from the channels. This had encouraged a large amount of vegetation growth and contamination of the surrounding walkways.
CEL were contracted by Thames Water to clear the vegetation and splash guards and replace them with new GRP covers. Some of the channel copings had become dislodge so theses were re-fitted as part of the works.
