Deephams Sewage Treatment Works is a sewage treatment facility close to Picketts Lock, Edmonton, England. The outflow discharges via Pymmes Brook into the River Lee Navigation at Tottenham Lock.

Deephams is one of CEL's biggest jobs, and it represents most of what CEL is capable of. Please look through our gallery, and if you have any queries / would like to enquire, please call us.

The initial contract was to cover the inlet works to contain the odours below from where they could be ducted to a new odour control plant. A major consideration was the regular flooding of the area. The covers would need to not only contain odour but be able to withstand flood water in excess of 2 metres depth.

Working with the Client and the consultant, a solution was developed utilising an array of “flood pressure relief hatches” to balance water pressure above and below the covers.

As this area was already hand-railed, the covers were considered non-accessible giving a considerable saving over the original plan to remove the rails and have the covers accessible at the higher loading.

A solution was developed that gave the operatives a safe means of access to the area with covers designed for an imposed load of 1.5kN/m2 as specified in WIMES 8.05 appendix G - accessible covers.
